On Veganism
Thanksgiving, 1989 – Long story short: If I could make it through Thanksgiving Weekend, I could make it longer than that. Coming up on 20 years long now and soon I will have been vegetarian longer than not.
1991 – Within a year and a half, thanks to support from some great friends, I had gone vegan. The day does not stick out in my memory so much, because it was such a foregone conclusion to move the line past dairy products and the use of animal to clothe or clean me.
Now – Ever since those early days, I try my best to eat, wear, and talk about what I know is right for me, us, the planet, and those little piggies who never asked us to turn them into bacon in the first place. At various times, I have been more activist in my actions, but now I do what I can to spread the word and be a role model for anyone who cares to notice. As our options for more prepared vegan meals increase, I find myself wanting to prepare more of my food from scratch, but if that is my biggest problem, then I should be able to keep a smile on my face.
